Coming soon: Harvard Phone call filtering feature

More than 10% of all incoming calls to the University are spam. To reduce the number of unwanted calls coming into the University, HUIT is launching a new call filtering feature for Harvard Phone, enabled by Mutare. The new feature will enable Harvard Phone users to:

  • Receive fewer nuisance calls: Filter calls coming from automated systems (e.g., robocalls) or numbers on Mutare’s aggregated list of spam callers.
  • Block unwanted numbers: Block numbers on an individual basis, per phone line, by contacting the HUIT Service Desk.
  • Report on filtered calls: Request a digest report of all filtered calls to your phone line by contacting the HUIT Service Desk.
  • Safelist numbers for individual phone lines: Request specific call routing rules be applied to any number by contacting the HUIT Service Desk

Beginning Tuesday, January 14 at 9:00 am, incoming calls from automated systems or known spammers will trigger a CAPTCHA prompt. Callers will be instructed to enter a two-digit authentication code to complete their call. If the code is not entered correctly, the call is not completed.

Over the past year, HUIT has compiled a safelist of numbers based on incoming call activity. Harvard Phone users may request that additional numbers be added by contacting the HUIT Service Desk
