New OneDrive storage limits
To comply with a new storage limit from Microsoft and help manage storage usage over time, HUIT will apply new default storage limits on all Microsoft 365 OneDrive accounts on June 9, 2026. All new and existing OneDrive accounts will be subject to the default storage limits with some exceptions by school or unit.
New accounts created after June 9 will have a default storage limit of 100 GB. No action is required for current OneDrive users. Existing users currently using more than 80 GB of OneDrive storage will be granted a higher legacy limit aligned with their current storage usage, ensuring continued access to their files without disruption:
| Current usage | New default |
|---|---|
0 - 80 GB | 100 GB |
81 - 400 GB | 500 GB |
401 - 900 GB | 1 TB |
Greater than 900 GB | 2 TB |
Users are encouraged to regularly review their OneDrive storage and make data cleanup part of everyday work.
