Guidance

AI connectors allow AI tools to access and integrate with other systems or add new capabilities. For example, you can connect tools such as ChatGPT or Claude to your email, calendar, files, cloud storage, collaboration tools, code repositories, and other apps. This allows the AI tool to use the data and functionality of connected apps to retrieve information, answer questions, and complete tasks on your behalf.

Only use approved connectors

HUIT reviews the security, privacy and contractual protections of connectors before they are enabled for use with Harvard AI tools. 

  • Use only approved connectors for Harvard work. You can review a list of approved connectors below. 
  • Do not authorize a connector to access confidential data or connect to Harvard systems unless it has been approved.

Understand what a connector can access

Connectors may be able to access data stored in other applications, retrieve files or messages, and perform actions on your behalf.

  • Before enabling a connector, understand what data and systems it can access.
  • Review the permissions it requests and the actions it can perform.

Request a review before enabling new connectors

If you want to use a connector that has not yet been approved, or if you’re unsure what access a connector requires, request a review from HUIT.
