# Retiring the Harvard OpenScholar website platform

October 01, 2025

Since 2023, HUIT has migrated 1,899 Harvard OpenScholar websites to the new HarvardSites Drupal platform, and retired more than 10,000 outdated websites. [Learn more about how we’ve modernized Harvard’s web platform and environment](https://www.huit.harvard.edu/annual-report#foundation) through this effort.

We are now approaching the **platform retirement phase** of the Harvard OpenScholar migration process:

- **As of September 30, 2025:** All migrated Harvard OpenScholar sites have been launched successfully on HarvardSites or other platforms.
- **As of October 1, 2025:** Harvard OpenScholar sites will no longer receive the highest level of operational support and may be subject to longer response times. Viewing of sites and administrative access will remain available.
- **November 1 - November 17, 2025:** The Harvard OpenScholar platform will undergo a controlled shutdown. After November 17**, Harvard OpenScholar sites will no longer be accessible and** **no content can be retrieved from the platform**.

All planned site migrations from Harvard OpenScholar to HarvardSites have now been completed or scheduled. If you have questions about your site, please [contact HUIT](/get-help "Get Help").
