Do you have an old phone with a shattered screen? A laptop that doesn't charge? A hard drive that’s been sitting in your office or lab? Come dispose of personal and University electronics sustainably and securely at Harvard Earth Day.

Proper disposal of sensitive materials through shredding and recycling prevents identity theft, reduces landfill waste, and supports environmental sustainability.

HUIT will accept the following items for data destruction:

- Computer Towers
- All-in-One Computers
- Laptops
- Hard Drives
- Tablets
- Backup Tapes
- Cell phones
- Removable media (e.g. CDs, floppy disks)

No large drop-offs are permitted. Departments with significant inventory needing secure destruction should reach out to <ithelp@harvard.edu> for assistance. Certificates of destruction will be provided to Harvard researchers if required to fulfill a contractual obligation.

Have an item that doesn’t store data? You can drop off other working electronics that don’t require secure destruction to the freecycle area for repurposing! (Please note that we cannot accept computer monitors for either the freecycle or data destruction.)

Standard household batteries (e.g. AA, 9V, button cells) will also be collected for recycling at the event.
